Letter from the Secretary General

Honorable advisors, chairs, secretariat, and delegates,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the second edition of MinasMUN — the only fully English United Nations simulation within the state of Minas Gerais. Not only is Escola Americana de Belo Horizonte hosting local schools, we are additionally hosting a school outside of Minas Gerais this year. I am delighted to see the expansion of this budding conference and anticipate for it to grow larger and larger for years to come.

Diplomacy at its core is about being open to other people’s perspectives and understanding why they have this view. This is why the theme of this year’s conference, “pull a thread here and you’ll find it’s attached to the rest of the world”, takes a closer look at the effects of globalization in this everchanging world. It is not an understatement to say that one action taken can have unknown effects continents away. Over the course of our three-day conference, we will work to uncover these effects and in turn, understand diplomacy.
